Trouble finding a good Magento Freelance Developer?

By 31 January 2014No Comments

Finding a good Magento Freelance developer can be hard, especially if you are not confident of what you are looking for. There are many out there that would claim they know about developing a Magento website, but do be careful. If you are just looking for a standard Magento website without any customisations or needing to use any of the key Magento features that will take your website to the next level, then you do not need to read any further!

Getting your Magento website to really make you some money needs different development and eCommerce experience skills. Getting your website to look great is the first battle, but then it needs to also function well and it HAS to appeal to your audience! Getting a single Magento Freelance developer will not cut it for you. What if you want to…

– have options on your products so people can select perhaps size, colour, fabric etc.

– be able to offer people the ability to customise their purchase with a message.

– have neat ways of increasing the average basket value or simply increase conversion.

– integrate with other systems you are running like your accounts package or CRM package.

– ensure your website is optimised for the search engines, taking into consideration best practice search engine optimisation techniques.

Gosh, there is just so much more for you to take advantage of with Magento.

At the end of the day, getting a Magento website developed should just not be that hard, but just choose who to partner with very carefully.

AND SO I DECIDED TO WRITE MORE ABOUT THIS…..

I just wanted to write about a recent experience. I had a new client come to us because they needed some help with a Magento website they had developed and now their Magento Freelance Developer is struggling to complete it because there are issues that they cannot handle. I feel for my client, because now they have to spend more money with us getting right what their previous developer could not do. This is a good example of making sure that you ask for example sites from your Magento developer of websites that are similar to yours.

That's all for now.

8th Jan 2013 – So, here I am again. I just wanted to write something again about Magento Freelance Developers. It is important that you do not take away from this article that I do not rate Magento Freelance Developers, because in fact there are some fantastic ones, of which some work for me now or have done. The ones that annoy me are the ones that pretend they have done a Magento website or have done one or two before. Then they realise that they are in over their head and mess up the website so much that it needs someone to rebuild it.

Love all you Magento Freelance Developers out there 😉

17th June 2013 – I a sorry to say that in the last 6 months I am still finding that there are Frelance Developers out there still claiming they know how to build effective Magento websites. They seem to be quite comfortable in taking good hard earned cash from people and saying they will build them a Magento website. What seems to happen is that the Magento Freelance developer either builds a great functioning website, but the front-end is just not something anyone would want to shop on, or they build a beautiful looking website, but the seach engines hate it and it in fact does not work.

As I say everytime, there are in fact some really great Magento Freelance developers out there, these are the ones that know what they are good at and then buddy up with agency like us.
