So, you are probably still wiping your brow from Christmas, but now you need to start thinking about Valentines day and how you can make the most of this special event.

Here are some ideas we have seen work with Magento and wanted to share them with you:
 
1. Big promotion on the homepage
 
Make sure people know you have something they will be interested in right from the first page they visit. Update your homepage to bring in some Valentines themes; perhaps update the main homepage image, change one of your navigation tabs to say Valentines, put some appropriate little valentine theme images in the header.
 
2. Valentines Category
 
Put in a Valentines link in the top menu bar and assign all your valentines products to it. 
 
Set up a category that is dedicated to Valentines and instead of just putting all the appropriate products in this category, take a copy of these products and then change the images and description to be dedicated to Valentines – that way people can really see how the product is appropriate for valentines day. This will also help with Search Engine Optimisation, as you will be creating new pages with Valentines content. 
 
3. Tell all your customers about it…
 
…and keep reminding them.
 
Now why don't you get yourself a MailChimp account (if you don't already have one) and create 2 or 3 emails to send out to your subscriber list in the run up to Valetines. They say that it can take up to 3 attempts before potential customers will read your email. Remember there is a Magento Extension that will integrate Mailchimp with your subscribers list in Magento from ebizmarts
 
4. Grab their attention with a knock out offer – limited time, limited stock.
 
You may also want to consider putting in a countdown promotion! "This is a special knock out offer only available for 24 hours" – when the user goes to this offer they will be presented with the product page that has a countdown showing how much longer the promotion is going to last. There is a great Magento extension that will do this for you from aheadWorks
 
5.  Reserve now while stocks last and avoid disappointment.
 
What about sending an email telling people to reserve their Valentines presents now to avoid disappointment. This will help you with your ordering and not miss out on those vital sales you may lose because you ran out.
