First and foremost, you must check that they have definitely built a website using Magento! I know it sounds obvious, but so many web companies will tell you “how hard can it be”! Magento don’t pack in all those features and have a growing reputation for providing people with something that does not take some experience to get right!
You can always spot the Magento websites that have been built by someone with a lack of experience. First of all, the footer will look the same as the one you get fresh out of the box with Magento. Another good spot is when you check out, everything reverts back to the theme you get out of the box. If the site performs slowly, then again, this will be down to lack of experience.
If you are planning to lay out any amount of money, then you deserve the best, so don’t settle for less.
