The Best Magento Websites

By 31 January 2014No Comments

Often people ask me what the best Magento websites are and my response is, those that convert! Installing Magento and then throwing a Magento theme on it is not the way to go about building the best Magento website. There are a number of things you should be thinking about and here are just some of my tips.

1. Think about your target audience in relation to what you are selling – if you are selling high-end goods, then your website must demonstrate that, no-one is going to part with £500 if your website looks like it was built on a shoe string. Also, there is no point having all the new cool whizzy front-end end features if your audience is not a sophisticated website user.

2. Make sure your website works on all the browsers. Internet Explorer is hard work for a Magento developer, but if they know their stuff then they will be able to make it work properly.

3. Think through the user journey, make it simple. Make sure you are using the least amount of clicks for the user to get to the product they are looking for.

4. Never have dead end pages – For example, when a user gets to a product page, then make sure there are other products for them to see like upsells, cross-sells and related products just in case that is not the product they want, just make is dead easy for them to find the right product.

5. Website speed! Make sure you have selected a good Magento hosting company and someone that really knows how to setup Magento. The most frustrating thing for anyone is sitting waiting for a webpage to load and 9 times out of 10 they will just leave.
