Traditionally, Web Agencies will build a website from the front, back. What I mean by this is that they will:
– First give you some amazing designs in the form of a jpeg (picture) and get you all excited about what your website will look like.
– Then it will be onto converting these HTML, bringing the website alive. It is at this point that the disappointment starts where some of the nice design features you discover cannot be achieved.
– Then they start putting in all the products, it is at this point that everyone starts to get frustrated as now there are certain quirks with how your products need to be set up that are really messing with the design.
– Then you launch and want to address how your shop looks, but the budget has run out.
At Object Source we take a unique approach to developing websites, something we have proved very successful. Each new person we take onboard, including Magento Freelance developer and designers think the approach is great and want to change to use it themselves. What we do is:
– Install a fresh copy of Magento and then work with the client to upload as many products as possible, this can be through the Magento Admin Panel or using a spreadsheet for speed.
– it is a this point that our client gets to see some of the amazing features of Magento and then decide to change how they want their products presenting.
– it is only now that we are in a position to start looking at the design, how the clients brand will be interpreted for their online shop and what will work for how they want to sell their products.
This approach has seen websites go live quicker and clients really happy with what they can now promote. It also means they are ready to start looking at other features and their ongoing strategy as opposed to working how to fix what has gone live.
