Thought I would write about a great night I had this week at the Magento Meetup in London. Ok, so the free wine and pizza certainly oiled the wheels of the night, thank you dotmailer and Ometria! Thing is, there is a lot to report about that night.
The first thing to say is that this is a real success story for the social site Meetup, a site that is set out to bring groups of people that share a specific interest. The Magento one saw 100 people sign-up and turn-up! Wow. And that was after it got oversubscribed and they had to increase the places.
So, there were many people there from London Magento Agencies to Magento shop owners to software companies that provide extensions to recruitment consultants. Clearly I was not going to get round and meet everyone, but this is who I did get to meet.
Thank you to Jackie from Habitat who came over to say hi and catch up. Then I bumped into Alex Mason from Austin Fraser, these folk find my Magento developers. Yay, then I bumped into an old acquaintance I met during my lastminute.com days when we looked at Venda for a solution to do a shopping basket idea Brent Hoberman had, this chap was Osvaldo Spadano, who now runs elastra, an awesome Magento Hosting service. Then I met a lovely lady, Busi Buchan, from from Nosto, a plug-n-play recommendation engine. It was at this point the chaps from dotmailer (a powerful email marketing platform) came over and gave us a short tour of their office, otherwise known as “get the loud girls to move while we are doing our presentation” ;-). What an amazing office dotmailer have! So, I covered all this and it was only 9.30pm and time to wrap up. There are not many networking nights where you can cover that much off in such a short space of time. Oh no it wasn’t “Come on, lets go for a drink to a local pub”!
