Overview

FLOWERBX had increasing frustrations with their Tech, challenged as to whether Magento Open Source was the right platform and lost trust in anything new being delivered. This frustration was exasperated by their Board of Directors, naturally, making demands and asking questions as to why nothing was getting done.

Challenge

  • Highly customised site with various new features and fixes layered on top of each other
  • Initially on an unsupported version of Magento with no easy way to upgrade
  • FLOWERBX were behind on their Tech Delivery with a long list of feature requirements
  • No in-house technical expertise to guide them on the right development strategy

Solution

When we are faced with a situation where you feel like you are playing whack-a-mole with fixing one issue and another rises, we recommend our:

Stabilise -> Boost -> Accelerate approach.

By providing services from Strategic Tech Planning, Technical Planning and then Execution, we were able to efficiently stabilise their current site so they could move forwar with the strategy at speed.

What We Did

Stabilise

We had to stop the ‘whack-a-mole’ experience!

  • First we ran a complete audit on their current site. From this we identified the where the key pain points were.
  • This formed a set of recommendations that the client was able to comprehend and sign-off.
  • Once these recommendations were executed, we then had a site that the client could start to grow in features without worrying whether the site would break.

Boost

Now it was time to boost the site, show how stabilising their site meant they had features available without large developments.

  • As we now had FLOWERBX on the latest version of Magento Open Source, we were able to migrate them to Adobe Commerce. This took only 2 weeks.
  • FLOWERBX then presented their 3 month feature list. This was completed within 2 weeks, as it was mainly a case of enabling out of the box features!

Accelerate

  • Now the team was not about ‘playing’ whack-a-mole, it was onto developing new features.
  • There was a full list of feature requirements that the FLOWERBX team had hidden away, as they just thought they would never get them done.
  • The COO took delight in, for the first time, chasing down the business product owners to define new requirements, instead of him being constantly chased for ‘when will x ever go live’, ‘why is y not working again’.

The Results

Within 2 weeks of going live with Adobe Commerce, they were able to complete everything they had planned for the next 3 months.

The COO was so delighted, that even though it meant he had to be up at 5am every morning (resides in the States) to be on our daily developer standup, he did, just so he could keep delivering more.
