Magento Hosting – Get this right
Getting the hosting specification right is paramount. There are a number of hosting providers out there that claim they can host Magento, but make sure you review some decent examples. Whatever you do, do not go with someone that cannot show you examples and certainly do not think that purchasing some startup website hosting will cut it. There is no one size fits all Magento hosting solution, which is why at Object Source we fully review each website independently taking into account all the variables, such as number of products, sales and visitors, before suggesting the best hosting solution.
Magento on Linux vs Magento on Windows
At the end of the day, Magento is developed using php and anyone who knows their stuff knows that php runs best on Linux. Magento can run on Windows and Object Source has a few examples of this. However, there are a few inherent issues with running Magento on Windows and unless you know what you are doing, it is really not advised
Configuring Magento
Don't think that just installing Magento on the right hosting solution and on Linux is it. Magento needs a few other applications in order to make it work, MySQL, Apache and PHP make up the typical Magento infrastructure, all these need to be tweaked to ensure the very best performance is provided.
