Let me first clarify what I mean by an online consumer engagement platform. There are many great eCommerce platforms out there; Shopify, Volusion, BigCommerce and then getting to the enterprise ones; Hybris and Salesforce Commerce. However, these platforms, in my belief, are still basically ‘trading’ platforms. They are great at getting your products online, beautiful, on brand front-end, amazing features for increasing the average order value and so on. However, where Magento is really taking the edge, is in being a consumer engagement platform. They have built in features that mean you can really start to bring your consumers closer to you, be part of their life, deliver to them what they need and when they want it. Customer Segmentation and Personalisation – You can now create a personalised shopping experience that will boost conversion rates by dynamically displaying content, promotions, and pricing to specific customers based on properties such as their location, gender, order history, lifetime purchase value, wish list items, and more. You can also target unknown site visitors based on the products they have viewed or items in their basket.
Dynamic Rule Based Product Relations – Set automated rules to determine which products to present as up-sells, cross-sells, and related products to each customer segment. Rules are easily administered through a condition-based tool allowing you to
effortlessly target product suggestions to increase sales and average order values.
Checkout – Having now added to Magento 2.2 a feature rich shipping module, you can now offer your customers the ability to choose different ways of having their products delivered based on their needs; next day, deliver to my local newsagent, deliver on a specific date and so much more. There have been many studies that show delivery options to be one of the biggest basket abandonment reason.
Customer Loyalty – Offer reward points for product purchases, registrations and various other actions and then let them redeem as many points as they like in the checkout.
This really is only just a few of the things that Magento have released and they are continuing to release more and more features all the time. Remember, once you have bought into Magento, you keep getting all these new features as and when they are released.
