In November 2015 Drupal 8 was launched to the public, delivering the next phase in the development of the leading open source CMS.
At objectsource, a London based Drupal Agency, our CMS of choice is Drupal and we were keen to get hands-on with the new features and updated technology. We have now delivered three sites built on Drupal 8 (including a rebuild from Drupal 7) and are really enjoying the experience – well, mostly /=)
We chose Drupal (and specifically Drupal 8) as our CMS of choice because as a platform, Drupal goes a long way beyond just being a CMS. It allows us to scale from basic CMS driven sites to complex solution driven sites incorporating custom functionality and integration with 3rd party services and social media feeds.
Drupal 8 benefits from an updated core, over 200 new features, vastly improved templating and theme development, increased performance, more maintainable codebase, improved multi-language support, enhanced content authoring experience (including in-place content editing) and easier workflow.
Drupal sites that we’ve completed include:
Warmup Bristol – a new Drupal 8 site for a local energy initiative, with a custom built responsive theme.
Bristol energy – a new Drupal 7 site for an energy company, including deep integration with a third party solution for the management of highly detailed customer information and energy usage metrics. This allows us to provide a customer portal that with online meter reading submission, billing and bill payment, and even live graphing of multi-tariff electricity usage for each individual customer.
Sheerluxe – is an online lifestyle magazine featuring news and views on the latest and most desirable fashion, beauty, wellness and lifestyle products, brands and goods on offer. This is a Drupal 7 site, featuring a custom built responsive theme, feed integration and management from multiple social media channels, bespoke article management and promotion tools, and custom mailing list subscription and management. Sheerluxe integrates a number of sister sites including their Boutique site, an eCommerce solution built in Magento.
