So, Black Friday will be 28th November, the day after Thanks Giving Day and then Cyber Monday will be 1st December. The question is, are you ready for it?
Even though Black Friday follows an American Holiday and traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season for Americans, we in the UK have also adopted this day. You will see Amazon already ramping up their marketing of this event to us Brits and they are calling it a deals week! It seems ebay are adopting a similar strategy, but starting 25th November.
Onto Cyber Monday, a term that started in 2005 when they discovered a big increase of online sales the Monday after Thanks Giving. Marketing folk then jumped on this and hence the adoption across the world as they encourage us to buy more!
So, are you Magento shop owners ready? Don’t be shy to jump on the back of something that can be seen as quite American. At the end of the day, this is the time that people are expecting the bargains. This is also a great opportunity for you to get a newsletter out where you don’t have to worry about a sales type title, saying Black Friday and / or Cyber Monday deals will tell the reader everything.
It could not be easier to set all this up before hand, Magento has features that enable you to put on timed deals. You just set up when you want the deal to start, what the deal is and when it needs to finish, the off you go and enjoy watching the sales come in. Remember the Magento promotions feature allows you to put in cart/basket rules, so you don’t have to just have products on sale, but you could have a “get x% off when you buy £y”.
